Contours / Currents – 2022

Karen has created a new series of paintings inspired by the return of light after the long darkness above latitude 66 degrees north.  This work, both landscape and abstract, evokes the soft luminance of an emerging sun on striking Icelandic and Arctic landscapes.

Show runs March 25th to 27th only

ABOUT THE SHOW

‘Contours|Currents’ is a tandem show by artists Karen Michael and Rory OBrien. Both artists work across multiple media and this show highlights their mastery in chosen mediums.

Karen is working closely with traditional oil painting techniques and materials to explore the space between landscape, form and expression. Inspired by the return of light, her work evokes the soft luminance of an emerging sun on striking Icelandic and Arctic landscapes.

Rory has created a new body of watercolour works with a focus on the fleeting shift of light on water – across Sydney’s famous rock pools, along beaches, and looking out to the open ocean. These beautiful works balance the landscape with swimmers in and around the water under dazzling summer sun.

Both Karen and Rory have had numerous successful solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions. This is their first time showing together.
