ABSTRACTED IMPRESSIONS, 2018
In a world where artificial intelligence, robotics and digitisation are so much a focus of life and the future, it is incumbent upon Karen, as an artist to draw her viewers’ attention to the physical realities of our world, our lives and our experiences.
Abstracted Impressions… reminders of life before, the physicality of the world, life, and the physicality of our perceptions.
The paintings in this body of work are abstracted impressions of locations that Karen has visited; locations that have had a significant impact on her – visually, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually. In order to retain our humanity, each one of us needs to remain open to the myriad of ways in which our physical environment impacts us. By remaining acutely aware of the physicality of our existence, we retain our distinction from the robotic world.
